MANUFACTURING FINANCE — NATIONWIDE

Plant Controller Jobs

Plant Controller roles are the backbone of manufacturing finance — owning standard cost, variance analysis, month-end close, and the P&L for a single site while acting as the plant manager's financial co-pilot. Every posting here is a real, open search with the full story: the plant, the team, the hiring manager, and honest travel expectations.

Plant Controller compensation typically lands in the $130–175k range, with relocation common for the right plant.

What a Plant Controller actually does

A Plant Controller owns the finance function for a single manufacturing site. Day to day that means maintaining the standard cost model, running variance analysis (purchase price, material usage, labor, and overhead) that operations actually acts on, closing the books each month, and owning the plant P&L and annual operating plan. The strong ones live on the floor as much as behind a desk — reconciling inventory across raw, WIP, and finished goods, justifying CapEx alongside engineering, and translating cost data into decisions the plant manager can make. This is standard, product-level costing, not summary-level corporate reporting.

Experience, credentials, and pay

Most Plant Controllers we place have 7–14 years of manufacturing finance behind them, deep standard-cost and ERP experience (SAP and Oracle are the most common), and a CPA or CMA on top of an accounting or finance degree. Compensation typically runs $130–175k, and relocation is common — the right plant is worth moving for. The usual path in is Cost Accountant, then Senior Cost Accountant or Cost Accounting Manager, then the Controller seat; from there the next steps are multi-site controllership and Director of Plant Finance.
