Plant Controller

Lead finance at a brand-new Abbott structural heart plant north of Indianapolis — one of two sites generating 50% of a $2B division — with a hiring manager who is explicitly recruiting for the career path, not just the role.

The Overview

Fortune 100 medical device manufacturer Abbott Laboratories is seeking a Plant Controller for their Westfield, IN facility — a brand-new plant within the structural heart segment of the medical device division. The medical device division makes up 50% of Abbott's $40B revenue. The structural heart segment does approximately $2B and is made up of 7 plants. The Westfield plant already has 400 employees and is growing to a second shift. Along with one other site, these two plants drive 50% of the segment's revenue.

The Role

The Site Controller is the finance head, managing financial planning, analysis, and reporting while strategically business partnering with site leadership across operations, supply chain, and quality functions. Key responsibilities include: product standard costing, financial planning and analysis (monthly/quarterly P&L forecast), monthly close, KPI reporting, capital and RCE investment analysis, fixed asset control, SOX and audit support, and developing and nurturing the finance team.

In Our Words

The hiring manager made it clear he is not hiring strictly for the Controller role — he is hiring for the career path. As this site continues to scale, more headcount will be necessary and it is possible this role will convert to a Finance Director. This division is headquartered out of Minneapolis and Chicago is the main corporate office.

The Hiring Manager

The ideal candidate will roll up their sleeves, is strategic, proactive, demonstrates strong leadership, is a mentor, and has good business IQ. They are looking for 10 years of experience, likely with previous Controller experience at a $200M+ facility.

Systems & ERP

Abbott uses SAP for the general ledger and AMAPS for costing. The plan is to eventually move costing to SAP as well.

The Benefits

At Abbott, you have access to career development with an international company, free medical coverage via the Health Investment Plan (HIP) PPO, an excellent retirement savings plan with high employer contribution, tuition reimbursement, the Freedom 2 Save student debt program, and FreeU education benefit. Abbott is recognized as one of the most admired companies in the world by Fortune and one of the best big companies to work for by multiple rankings.
