Step into the top operations-finance role at a well-known American dairy producer — a true problem-solver's seat where you'll set the standards, win credibility out on the plant floor, and define how a growing manufacturer turns operational reality into decisions leadership can trust.
The Overview
This is a widely recognized name in the American dairy aisle — think everyday staples like sour cream, cottage cheese, and dips. The business is privately owned with a workforce that stays for the long haul. It currently runs a handful of manufacturing sites and is standing up a new greenfield facility in Iowa that's expected to nearly double overall production capacity. Finance is a small, tight group, the product portfolio is deliberately focused, and there's a real chance here to own something meaningful.
The Role
As the senior operations-finance leader, you'll report to the Controller and take ownership of product costing, standard-setting, bill-of-materials governance, the inventory close, variance analysis, and budgeting and forecasting for every plant. One high-visibility early project is consolidating bills of materials: right now, each site keeps its own BOMs for identical products, and the mandate is to unify them across the enterprise inside Microsoft Dynamics 365. Once that's in flight, the seat settles into being the ongoing finance partner to plant operations and engineering — digging into what drives losses in a fluid dairy setting, resetting standards each month, and converting what happens on the floor into insight leadership can act on.
In Our Words
Think problem-solver, not scorekeeper. The person who held this work before brought strong commodity-pricing chops but leaned on the manager to push every fix across the line. What's needed instead is someone who heads out to the plant floor, connects with the folks who've been there three decades, earns their confidence, and then advances the process — by proving it's better, not by firing off a directive. If you've run closes, owned BOMs, chased down inventory losses, and quietly shifted opinions in a room full of people who've done it their way for longer than you've been alive — this one's for you.
The Hiring Manager
You'll report straight to the Controller, who brings deep cross-industry manufacturing-finance experience and arrived here from a business with far greater product complexity. She calls this operation "wash, repeat" — and she means it as a compliment, not a knock. She's a systems thinker who built the plant budgeting process from the ground up and is now ready to entrust it to someone reliable. Expect a manager who's straightforward, collaborative, and crystal-clear about what she wants. The CFO carries real weight in this hire and is personally pushing the company's AI and automation efforts forward.
Your Team
The group forming under this role will feature a Senior Cost Analyst and a Financial Analyst (an internal person is in the mix for the analyst slot). When the new Iowa plant goes live, a fourth analyst headcount is expected to follow. You'll coach, grow, and elevate these people — developing talent isn't an optional extra here, it's central to the job.
The Culture
The workforce here is remarkably long-tenured — engineers and plant leaders with three and four decades on the clock. That longevity cuts two ways: the depth of institutional knowledge is real, and driving change means building relationships rather than issuing orders. Finance itself is small and works closely together. This place rewards people who get out on the floor, ask sharp questions, and build credibility before they start pressing for change.
Systems & ERP
The company operates on Microsoft Dynamics 365, tied into its MES and CMMS platforms. Power BI and Power Automate are already in play or expanding. The BOM standardization work will happen within D365 — and experience with SAP BOMs is openly counted as a transferable skill for it. You'll need intermediate-to-advanced Excel (pivot tables, nested formulas, analytical modeling). Familiarity with Office Scripts, VBA, or macros is a bonus. Since the CFO is a strong advocate for AI and automation, what matters is curiosity and a willingness to grow — not that you show up an expert.
Travel & Remote
This is a hybrid setup — a blend of remote work, time in the corporate office (currently in Dallas along the 635/75 corridor, relocating to a Plano location roughly a year out), and time at the nearby Garland, TX plant. Plan on quarterly trips to each plant site (a few today, one more once Iowa comes online). Candidates based near the Ohio plant will also be considered. Out-of-state overnight travel is minimal.
The Location
Corporate office: Dallas, TX (near the LBJ/US-75 corridor), shifting to Plano, TX within about a year. Manufacturing sites: Garland, TX; a plant in Ohio; and a new greenfield facility in Iowa with an opening date still to be set.
